Certification by ACPE is an earned privilege and responsibility. It is achieved by meeting the requirements for certification in the ACPE standards. The regional Certification Committee examines candidates for certification to ensure candidates meet ACPE Standards.
The Accreditation Commission establishes procedures and guidelines, detailed in the ACPE Accreditation Manual, for granting and maintaining the accreditation of an ACPE center and its programs. The regional committee visits centers and ensures compliance with ACPE Standards.

The Mid-Atlantic Region is part of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. The Mid-Atlantic Region is comprised of CPE Centers in North Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is a dynamic, experiential “hands on” program of training. Students enrolled in CPE work in small groups where they reflect on theology and the practice of ministry. Centers in our region offer Clinical Pastoral Education under the Accreditation of the ACPE, Inc.
